No, it was never about someone eligible being denied, it is the lack of transparency regarding application of the rules.

At LHR, NZ doesn't provide access for a guest, some other airlines presumably do. Yet NZ DOES provide the equivalent at Australian airports for its *Gold guests, and it works in the US as well.
