Nonsense. People assume it's Apple Pay because Apple Pay is more widely used than Android Pay. Samsung Pay works at more locations but that doesn't mean it's used more.
This is likely anecdotal but I've had a couple of smaller stores tell me that they could never get their terminals to take anything other than Samsung Pay until I showed them how to get the NFC part to turn on (hint: they'll need to enter the amount first). Not sure if that implies people are using Samsung Pay more often than the others, however.
