LX356 23Jun GVALHR (op by C-Series) - 3h51 delay
I was on the above flight last night - there was a delay on the on inbound sector from LHR resulting in a gate change from B44 to B34 (change of satellite in GVA). Then a further rolling delay resulting in an a/c change (a different C-Series), and a further gate change (back to original gate B44!).
Eventually we boarded (the flight was scheduled to depart at 17:50) around 19:40 and the Capt was v. apologetic - explaining that the a/c had a tech problem at LHR on the previous sector, plus a problem with the tug on pushback. Then two toilets became inoperative during the flight back to GVA. Engineers had tried to fix the problem on the ramp in GVA but had insufficient time, hence the a/c change. A few minutes after that announcement, the Capt came back to advise the cabin crew had now had insufficient hours to operate the flight, therefore there would be a further delay until a replacement crew arrived. After the replacement crew had just arrived, the Capt made a further announcement to advice LX Ops centre in ZRH had just advised him that the whole crew - flight deck and cabin crew - were to be replaced -- so the new cabin crew who had just arrived from standby were to be changed again!
By this time people were understandably getting frustrated, tired - and hungry! However the new crews arrived quite quickly and I must say the purser did an excellent job placating passengers by standing at the front of the cabin on the PA apologising and explaining.... however, as he said, this is not the standard you expect of Swiss!
Eventually we departed at 21:41 instead of a scheduled dep of 17:50 and arrived at LHR at 22:09, instead of 18:30 - only to find all the automated passport gates down at T2 so a long queue for passport control through the zig-zags - but that's another story!! Friday night and home at last!
