It is interesting! Although, if you happen to use a BA branded credit card and get a refund greater than the amount paid, you may end up with a slight negative Avios balance on your credit card spend. If the example above was 30K Avios for USD500.00 off and balance paid by Chase Visa, the refund of an extra USD500.00 would 'cost' 1500 Avios; i.e. the next USD500.00 of BA spend on the card wouldn't earn any Avios.

Just dilutes the price per Avios somewhat. Not sure if the Amex works the same way.

(I currently have about a USD285.00 negative BA spend balance on my Chase card, not from this anomaly but a refund of an unused ticket where the Avios earned from spending had already posted to BAEC).
