While I was upgraded, the room was fairly tired. It needed a good renovation -- there weren't enough outlets for devices, as an example. My in-room espresso machine didn't work well and the capsules weren't labeled so you had no idea what you were getting.
Bathrobes were provided, but slippers weren't. No mouthwash or dental kit was provided, which was a first for me at a J.W. Marriott hotel. Basic requests like delivery a package or bringing slippers took nearly an hour to fulfill. I never received a newspaper, but neighbors did.
The 36th floor lounge was kind of disappointing, especially since Pepsi and Diet Pepsi cans were locked away during the day. The food was the same that you'd find at a Marriott in Sioux Falls or wherever, not an upscale J.W. Marriott. The lounge didn't even have 1% milk, let alone skim milk.
The pool is nice but gets almost no sun. It should have been located on a higher floor.
Interesting. I'm a long time SPG elite just coming over to Marriott, so have only stayed in a few, including the JW in Dubai. That had an incredible lounge with an incredible breakfast, but it's international. I found the rooms pretty comparable; I might have even liked my room in Miami better.
My room did have mouthwash, but no dental kit.
I didn't have many requests, but did have a few. Someone broke a glass outside my door, and housekeeping cleaned it up immediately when I told them. I asked the concierge about the beach, and they sent me to Nikki beach with a card for free chairs/towels. I was a little apprehensive, but the place was perfect.
Lastly, I asked to borrow an umbrella, which they got immediately, but did have my sign a form saying I would be charged $30 if I didn't return it (that was a first).
I was given a free bottle of champagne and some chocolates, and the lounge gave me fresh squeezed orange juice to make mimosas with.
