Why stick with Gold Passport?
After years of being a loyal Hyatt customer (Platinum), I'm wondering what my loyalty is really getting me. Current trip is a perfect example. I never use gold passport points for free nights as the room category the free night entitles you to is a room that I never choose if I'm paying: i.e., a garden view as opposed to an ocean view room. Each time I try to use my points to upgrade to Regency Club accomodations, there's usually no availability (months in advance).
I'm currently at the Hyatt in Kauai. No Regency Club upgrade availability for paid deluxe ocean view, however, there are Regency Club rooms available for sale on the web site. I do understand that there are capacity controls for advance upgrades, however, why wouldn't Hyatt allow for upgrades upon checking in when those rooms have not been sold?
