YVR concierge thinks gate may have paged standbys at T-40min or so, and since we weren't at gate until closer to T-30, the gate agent moved on down the list. (in contrast to cleared e-ups which do not require you to rush to the gate).
If that ends up being the case, it may be good advice to sprint to the gate (or in my case, advise the checkin desk before rushing thru security) once a standby checkmark appears.
If I think there is any chance the AC deboarding police will try to wield their baton, I call the concierge and let them know I will be on the flight. I might be at the gate at t-20, but I will be there. (Usually happens on tight transborder connections, but less lately, thankfully.)
