Whatever the rationale, they've found a loop-hole (that maybe others use to), and it's not right.
Just a couple of remarks remarks, starting from the latest.
- No "loop-hole", it's all legal and as we've said, the "master" of *A (i.e. LH) taught them (example of non-full benefit granting "LH flights": Air Dolomiti, and the newest one I almost booked today: FCO-MUC-HER marketed by LH, operated by Eurowings, partly flown by... Air Berlin!

Benefits from *A or OW?

)
- Assuming one wants to fly ATH-CFU or ATH-HER, do you really believe that (s)he'll fly A3 into ATH because of the presumed *A benefits (then not granted?). Otherwise (s)he'd fly on a non *A company and switch onto Ellinair or Astra or Sky Express? C'me on...
- Last year I flew Sydney-cairns on Tiger Air. Part of the Value Alliance now, but guess who's the owner? Talking about the presence of *A in Australia...
As I wrote in my initial reply to you, I agree that it's not nice, but so many airlines do it that it is sometimes difficult to avoid that.
