One reason that I could imagine it not being a mistake is that it could really help them sell more PS. The availability is going to be so limited, and if they can put people in F on connections, it will open up more markets to PS (which is essentially just domestic F on international flights).
If this is indeed not a mistake, I'll be very curious to see what they do with the transcon routes. I'm fairly certain PS won't book into D1 on the transcon, but what about someone who is going JFK-SYD with a connection at LAX. Would they have to do something like JFK-DTW-LAX-SYD in order to be in F & PS the whole way?
Or maybe the long term game is to offer PS on the transcons?
