I have also seen them move up a departure time after posting a delay. They sometimes decide that they're ready, round up whomever is at the gate, load and go, leaving behind a few who wandered off believing the posted time, although that was admittedly quite a few years ago.
Given SFO's propensity for delays, I don't even leave home/work until at most 90 minutes prior to the updated schedule departure time. Or later. Sometimes they'll delay a flight from 1600 to 1700, but I can see the inbound isn't going to touch down until 1650, so I might not even head out until 1630.
Though I would be checked in with no luggage, which changes things significantly.

Unless you are expressly told otherwise, all deadlines are based on the flight's originally scheduled departure time, not modifications made later.
I think they'd be hard pressed to enforce that if the documentation they've provided me is a BP with a boarding time and departure time.
