2) Sounds like there may have been some misunderstanding in terms of how the fee is handled. You aren't ultimately charged if you don't get on the stand by flight. But physically the fee is charged then refunded. So in the end you are truly only charged if you get on the flight.
3) DL charges a stand by fee. WN makes you upgrade to a higher fare to stand by. AS doesn't offer stand by options on all flights, only specific destinations. UA charges a stand by fee.
4) The phone number is for reservations not refunds. They can't really assist with refunds so thats why they refer you to the website.
5) Crediting of flights can take at least a day or two.
