Also, you can still go to the Preferred counter/kiosk/booth at Denver, which will have either no line or a very short line (compared to the potentially very long line inside).
So even if you aren't able to verify your identity at an Avis location beforehand and your name isn't on the board when you arrive at Avis Denver, you can still skip the line.

Yes, you should be able to go into an Avis location after signing up so they can swipe your credit card. I've never done this but I've heard it works. Really no harm in signing up since it's free and then stopping in at your local Avis branch to see what happens. If you do, please report back on results.

With Hertz, I know you actually have to rent a car somewhere to complete the enrollment process. Not sure how Avis works.
