All else being equal I would also choose to arrive in RSW but usually I find I get there earlier by arriving in MIA or FLL early afternoon and then driving. Only last week AA cancelled a CLT-RSW segment of my next ex UK trip to RSW meaning that I can only get there around 2030 which is 3 hours or so later than I would by driving across and for me too long a journey in any case. The loss of AA's MIA-RSW service a few years ago still hurts.
