Sounds like everyone is having a mixed experience over this - but perhaps BA just hasn't caught up with the backlog yet.

Here's my own data point, and I have to say that I came off this very well...

1. Prior to IT fail, I was Silver with card expiry 31 Aug 2017. I had requalified, so knew I'd make Silver for 2018.
2. About 10-12 days after IT fail, my Silver card expiry was extended to 31 Aug 2019. That'll be the two-year extension that everyone's getting.
3. After flights from last weekend (exactly two weeks after the IT fail day), I actually qualified for Gold. Today, my status on BA.com has been updated - Gold until 31 Aug 2020.

If I work it out - without the extension I'd have been Gold until 31 Aug 2018 (putting aside requalification). Given the new expiry date, that's an exact 2 years granted.

Great times! First time I've ever hit Gold, too (I used to travel a lot, but for an NGO so it was always econ - now I travel just as much but out of my own pocket, so I can spring for better seats).

I know BA has (rightly) taken some stick for their service fail on that disastrous day. But seriously, between the speed of refunds, EU261 compensation and now extension of Gold until 2020 - they've done alright by me...
