Sure, but the problem is that people don't always obey the signs (cf. the blogger referred to in the original post). The real issue is then indeed at T5C and they really should reinstate the staff check there.
But for those of us who know what we're doing, it's very useful being able to stay on the transit and get into the arrivals stream!
I wouldn't want them to reinstate the check and prevent that because some silly blogger screwed up through deliberately disobeying the signs.
