I'm just looking at this hotel too and was shocked to see copays on every room class. (And yes, the copay in the OP's note was for a much fancier room than baseline - but even the baseline room costs 100 euros per night on top of the points. And worse, it looks like you pay all 5 nights, even though the 5th night is supposed to be "free."
Maybe I'm just naïve (pause for hopefully light flaming), but I thought all Marriott room redemptions were honestly free. I haven't hit any that needed cash beyond resort charges before. is this a new thing?
I searched first on Boscolo and came upon them as a hotel that doesn't honor the no-blackout rule. Are they just bad actors - unwilling to give members the program's advertised fees and benefits. Has anyone stayed there? Are they worth the minor larceny?
(edit) Just to be clear, I'm referring to copays for "base" level rooms as in this case - which obviously means different things at different properties - not referring to added payments for suites or various upgrades. I guess I don't know why they don't just go to the highest category...
(edit) Oops, I came here for info on the copay (which is still a question as I didn't really even know they exist and would love perspective on how widespread they are, is it a Boscolo thing or a Rome thing or what). But I also asked for general info on the hotel - and once I moved off this copay question I saw a general thread on the hotel. So I can eliminate that question. I didn't see it because I was searching "copay."
