Cockpit announcements on Indian carriers

A couple of months ago I flew AUH-LKO on 9W and the captain came on the PA twice to make useful announcements, in perfect English.

Recently, I flew NRT-DEL-CCU-DEL and on ALL these flights, the only PA from the cockpit was a grunt "crew take your seats" just before the final take-off run. Why are AI pilots so contemptuous of passengers?

Something else - at CCU, I checked in for my flight CCU-DEL-SFO. I was flying in two separate tickets, each with its own FQTV number. Incredibly, there were no less than 4 female check-in agents + 1 counter supervisor + 1 Duty Manager who were unable to do a through check in with two separate FQTV numbers; yet the Japanese staff at NRT had done exactly that in the opposite direction without a fuss. The AI staff at CCU were so miserably clueless (you could make out from their faces alone) that it was really tragic. Why are they so grossly incompetent?
