You will have better success trying for other Australian cities than SYD, though it may be that only MEL and SYD have F service by then. Otherwise easier to get awards to ADL and PER. SYD is often sold out even for revenue F making A difficult to get -- so don't expect CX to release seats before a week or so of departure date for SYD.
