Angry Pilot announcements driving me insane

this is the beginning of a petty rant. skip the post unless you like this kind of thing.

I'm on board the 9pm JFK-SFO in D1, desperately trying to zone out....i have the wonderful noise cancelling headphones on...listening to Club Delta (which is really really good)...and !^$^!^@%%$&@%@! the pilot has decided to appoint himself the in-flight ESPN announcer.

4 times now, he comes on with a basketball score announcement.

Mind you...
A) The airplane has ESPN, everyone who cares can watch TV and get the score,
b) The airplane has wifi, everyone who cares can go online,
c) It's the middle of the @*!&$^ night. almost 12am actually.

I have ranted about this before but it bears repeating. This is not 1968. I do not rely on the captain for all of my information. I am deeply engrossed in work, in music, in sleep, in my own little world - for which I paid handsomely - and listening to a pilot who still thinks of himself as some kind of god of the skies or tour guide or a weatherman or a time service or a conduit between me and the civilized planet down below....is NOT necessary.

I complained to the FA's several times to ask the pilot to shut up and they nod and smile and apologize and tell me they understand but it's quite obvious they have 0 intent of relaying the message, either because they think i'm crazy or because they don't want to get on the pilot's bad side.

Seriously, enough with the !&$^^ announcements already.

(And don't even get me started on the cutesy new spiel about signature cocktails...)
