A backpack for hiking/camping will get you different recommendations than if you're essentially after a 'suitcase' (.i.e. something to put on a plane and carry to a hotel etc). Be aware that bags with loads of straps don't mix well with airports, so a bag where the straps can be easily tightened or even unclipped and stowed might be worth considering if you're getting something big enough to check.
If you're going hiking with a load of gear I'd suggest you go to a decent camping shop and speak to someone there who can show you how to wear and pack a backpack properly. What you think is comfy when it is empty and you're in a t-shirt isn't what will be comfy when it is full and you're wearing a jacket, for example. Hip and chest straps are a good idea but only if you have the bag properly adjusted.
As an example, The North Face base camp range of duffel bags get very well reviewed as robust travel bags, but they're not really designed for hiking, so as others have said it really depends what you will be using the bag for.
