Wise advice, jsnydcsa. I picked up a fully-justified red light violation in Virginia. Rental company posted me the bill for telling the Police who I was (renter/driver), and the Police sent me the details of the offence. My only challenge was actually finding out how to pay the Police penalty!! I ended up having to email the Police Chief for help in paying, because I certainly didn't want to have ANY issues with Immigration the next time we went through IAD.

A very helpful Lieutenant was put on the case, emailed me everything I needed to know, I paid my $40 ... and next time there (a few months later) at his suggestion we were given a conducted tour of their new Police HQ

I guess they don't get too many offenders howling because they can't find out how to pay their fines, and I suspect they had some good laughs at coffee break. But ANYTHING is better than turning up at an International Border with outstanding local offences.
