On page 5 of my brand new US passport, it states: "THIS PASSPORT IS NOT VALID UNLESS SIGNED BY THE BEARER IN THE AREA DESIGNATED ON PAGE THREE"

There it is, in ALL CAPS. The US doesn't consider an unsigned passport valid.
