The case of the child who can't even walk, let alone sign their name, is a good example of this.
In the US, one generally does not sign a child's name to anything. Often there is a place in a document for the parent to sign as parent, and sometimes you will sign [CHILD'S NAME] by [PARENT'S NAME].
