I'd second the suggestion at morning.

The main departures bank of flights to Europe with overnight connections and the mornings travellers feeding the short haul fleet all getting in the air, short haul aircraft coming from Europe and turning already, in addition to the morning long haul departures. A very steady stream of red, white and blue tails!

After that it seems departures are a little smoother.
