There is an absolutely amazing weather pattern between IAH and AUS. Evening flights originating in IAH going to AUS regularly expect turbulence to the extent that the pilot announces at push back that there won't be a service due to expected turbulence. This happens well over half the time. Strangely, though, flights from AUS to IAH never seem to run into the expected turbulence and rarely have to preemptively suspend service. What's even more strange is that in almost all cases that the pilot announces the expected turbulence, is that through sheer skill and luck, the turbulence is avoided!
