Perhaps I've been incredibly lucky, or else I give the appearance of not having much cash on me, but I've never had a problem carrying cash. That said, I usually keep a wallet with US$300-400 tucked hidden inside my luggage (for as my mom would say "mad money"), and I carry a small leather purse with whatever foreign currency I need in the amount of 100-200 euros or pounds in my pocketbook. I only take one credit card with me when I travel which is good for ATM's & hotels, meals etc. I've never used a money belt, or a hotel safe (then again my travels are to major cities business centers and I stay at Hyatts, Starwoods, Four Seasons etc-- where I feel reasonably safe about my one carry on bag. If I had to carry 'lots' of cash, I'd probably take the advise above and keep it on my person at all times. Perhaps in a zippered compartment of your purse, or on the bottom of it in an envelope?
