NZ itinerary help
I have a few questions about a proposed itinerary in NZ. Flights are already booked into WLG and departing CHC, but everything in-between is modifiable. As background we've been to NZ before - have spent time in Auckland, Queenstown and Christchurch (Feb 13 - when most of city was still a "red zone" following the earthquake); our preferences for travel are to see things (eg scenery, historical sites, museums, tourist attractions) and do a bit of exploring, but not "tramping" (ie would enjoy a nice walk for a few hours somewhere, but wouldn't head for the hills to camp overnight or spend a day climbing a mountain).
Proposed itinerary is below; main questions are: 1) is this realistic? 2) would you amend anything? 3) where's best to hire a car? 4) is it worth building more time into Christchurch? (I'm not sure how much development work has happened since Feb 13)
Day 1 - Arrive Wellington pm
Day 2 - Wellington
Day 3 - Wellington day and interisland ferry to Picton pm
Day 4 - pick up car in Picton and drive to Westport
Day 5 - Westport to Fox Glacier
Day 6- Fox Glacier
Day 7 - Fox Glacier to Queenstown
Day 8 - Queenstown to Dunedin
Day 9 - Dunedin
Day 10 - Dunedin / possibly Christchurch pm
Day 11 - Christchurch and early evening flight out (or Dunedin and drive to CHC airport for evening departure)
Thanks for any suggestions or advice!!
