If DL won't make the change, and it need not because you are above MCT, consider that the downside is simply waiting for the next flight anyway. And if it is AZ which is delayed and causes the misconnect, there is a good chance that you will qualify for EC 261/2004 compensation of EUR 600 each, a total of EUR 5,000, because your final ticketed destination is CVG and you will be delayed at least 4 hours.
HUH? EC261 compensation of 600 Euro per person times 5 passengers is 3,000 Euro total, not EUR 5,000.
