This certainly smells of some sort of false advertising / bait-and-switch type claim, although probably subject to Israeli law. But OP said he didn't want to take this past AA. OTOH, there's a chance that notifying AA that you may consider filing a regulatory complaint can get them to be more generous with the comp, if AA feels that such a complaint would actually be valid.
