I was the sole thru-passenger on a ATL-CLT-DTW flight a couple years ago. AA.com gave me separate boarding passes. I mentioned to the FA that I was continuing and she gave the GA my boarding pass to scan. (That flight continued to PHX on the same flight number, a tough way for an AA-loyalist to do ATL-PHX.)

It's not impossible but it strikes me as very unlikely that the OP stays on the same plane with a different flight number.
