First would be to see if the plane type is the same. Assuming it is:

With CLT beind a major hub, there is very little chance of it being the same plane. If the connection time is more then an hour, even less likely.

I've noticed that legacy US routes (which is what you listed) sometimes carry the same flight number for three or four segments, and they are indeed the same plane.

Looking at CLT-PHX tomorrow:

Flight 679 comes from FLL (flight number 679)
Flight 628 comes from MCO (Flight number 628)
Flight 600 comes from New York (Flight number 600)
Flight 462 comes from ORD (flight 461)
Flight 1638 comes from PDX (flight 1930)
Flight 494 comes from PHX (flight 1899)
Flight 547 comes from SFO (flight 720)
Flight 635 comes from SJU (flight 1862)

So one of the planes did come from MCO.
