There is nothing in the policy documentation that talks about change fees specifically, it is quite general stating...
We will reimburse up to £5,000 per insured person, for journey deposits and costs, which you cannot recover from
any other source and this is due to:
1. Death or serious injury or illness to you, a travelling companion, a member of your immediate family, a business
partner who are all resident in the UK or a relative or friend in whose home you are intending to stay.
I called the insurance company and the agent wasn't sure either as she hadn't come across this situation before and said she would have to find out. I guess I'll wait and see.
I might try BA again, but the agent said their policy document says to refer them to travel insurance and only if the passenger doesn't have it then they may help. She said she has added notes that I have travel insurance.
Was hoping BA might have been a bit more helpful to be honest. It was the OTA we booked our pre-paid hotel through that I was least hopeful about as they get some really bad reviews online, but they said if we can provide some sort of documentation then they may be able to refund us.
I imagine the difficulty you are having is because this would be the second compassionate move, you could persist with BA and you may get a more sympathetic supervisor.
You quote from your insurance company, what benefit is that under, if its under delay that you should be covered but watch for the excess, if it is for curtailment and cancellation then they would only cover you to cancel your holiday and rebook (which may work out cheaper depending on the figures and the excess).
