Apparently the person whom you dealt with told you stuff applicable to voluntary changes, not to schedule irregularity. They should have accommodated you at no extra cost, either by putting you on another airline, or going for your own suggestion.
Very similar to the issue that I had. Looks like they are bullying people in accepting stuff that we don't need to accept.
Yeah, I noticed the same thing after you said that. It's strange that their rebooking guidelines differ from their tariffs though -- is that allowed? In retrospect, I now wish I'd pushed back, but it's a bit late.. so I guess I'll just call them in the next few days and then mail in a complaint
