We have complained on here that BA changed from being either fair or generous with their service recovery compensation in the past to downright stingy in recent times. A chain of unhappy events and arguably "payback" for the way the company has been managed has resulted in brand and image damage that has caused BA, at least right now, to want to look generous again.

Good luck to those that got this extension, but I don't think the Leopard has changed its spots yet. That will only happen with a change of management.
