This writer said the same thing (in reference to he 18 hour UA flight).

Even if UA starts flying well before AQ, I am quite sure SQ's service will be well beyond what UA offers. And this nonsense of 2-2-2 business class cabins on long haul is outdated.

QUOTES:

"Sitting on a 18 hour flight is exhausting enough but in Economy Class it sounds pretty horrible especially on United Airlines 3-3-3 configuration (Polaris has 2-2-2)."......

"18 hours in a 3×3 seater ‘tuna can’ is a horrifying prospect if all seats are occupied and as a leisure traveler I can’t help but wonder if it wouldn’t be more comfortable to fly via Tokyo and have a brief stop or transit there. Not that the seating in Economy would be much different but at least you can leave the plane after 10 hours and recover a little."
