Have to say, Amankila was the highlight for us with Ernst taking the best GM award as well. Agree wholeheartedly about the food. Fantastic! Especially the seafood platter.

I'll try to find time to type of a review, but the cliff notes are that although Aman is expensive, we felt the value was very high. They are not perfect, but the service recovery always exceeded our expectations and wiped out any other trivial items my wife and I would mention to each other.

We are very happy we did the Bali Aman tour for our honeymoon
Congrats on the marriage and good to hear you had a great time!

I agree on the value. Dollar for dollar, we do think we got our money's worth on Aman in Bali!

You mentioned that your Ocean Suite had walkways on both sides, and from the pic you posted seemed less private & remote. Just a head's up for anyone visiting in the future, the Ocean Suites have a pretty widely varying range of privacy--so check out multiple ones if occupancy is low enough to allow.

I found the following review on the web (https://quantitativetravel.wordpress...n-at-amankila/). I'm not familiar with the reviewer, but they included an Amankila map in the review, which is helpful.

If you look at the map, on the far left side there is a "column" of villas--these border a valley, so have complete privacy on one side (but note that that is where the villas are being built, so this won't last). These are villas 6, 7, 11, and 19.

This past March I stayed in suite #7 , and it was incredibly private. Whilst suite #6 looks close, it was actually about 40 feet away, and about 30 feet lower in elevation. And our walkway was only shared with #6 , so we very private.

That's another advantage of being on the valley side--these suites are actually treehouses. As in ours was on pillars that were probably 25 feet above the ground on one side, and 40 feet above the ground on the other (#7 is perched both on hill as well as on the side of the valley).

Then of course the higher up the better the ocean view.

Some people recommend the Ocean Suites with the best ocean views (34? 36?), but my recommendation would be to get a suite on the valley side.
The valley side away from the main walkways do seem to be the most private. We were perfectly ok with our room after making the adjustments to the window shades though, as I can't say we spent all that much time in our room!

It is worth noting that that side is where the residences will eventually be built so something to think about once construction starts

its easy to change stay after checkin, especially because aman indonesia are owned by aman, and mostly same rates

FHR free nights fairly standard under new corporate owner, also many lowered rates (mainly in added low seasons)
I do believe that VIP is now chargeable for Aman, in addition to Chedi (maybe StR is one of the few that offers it for free still?). Regardless, I believe staffing levels are much better now combined with visa free travel for most citizens means that the service isn't really needed. We were plane to car in maybe 20 minutes and that was with a stop at the restroom and atm included.

Aman does have reps at the airport in addition to the drivers but for departure, they just walk you to security so it's not much of a value added service
