Inter-Airline Award Miles Accounting-What Does an AS Mile "Cost"?

Since I "retired" from my career, I guess I can go public with it.

For Alaska, they want it to be cost neutral. So for our airline, they wanted to make sure that redemptions always = accruals on our airline to AS. To redeem a 20,000 mile award, it would cost us $98.00.

XYZ, it was some insanely low amount for XYZmiles redemption on my airline for a short haul flight. I think it was 5,000 skypesos would net us like $12.00 for our flights. Mind you this was 10 years ago. I have the old agreement on my laptop, and I'm no longer covered by non-disclosure with that airline (they're out of business).
