My wife and I are using SPG/Marriott points to book Kauai for 5 days in Jan 2017. I have never been to Kauai and would like recommendations for location and hotel. I hear that the North end of the Island can get colder during the winter months but has better access to hiking trails and nature, while the south is more geared to the beach goers. We would like a little bit of both. (she is the beach bum and I want to drag her to the trails ) It looks like our options are:
- Kauai Marriott
-Koloa Landing Resort
-Courtyard at coconut beach
-Sheraton Kauai
-Westin Princeville
-St Regis Princeville

I have Gold status for both Marriott and SPG so it would also be nice to know if benefits help at any of these places. Not really aiming for St Regis as it would deplete my points bucket unless anyone really thinks it's worth it. Would be willing to throw in some extra $$ for a better room if any of them do it. What does everyone think?
