Well, last year AC and CX signed a codeshare where CX funnels AC pax from HKG to destinations including BKK, SGN and MNL. Kind of kicks TG to the curb.
There are 2 benefits to CX here, one of which is connecting pax from HKG the other meets the needs of the J pax to Canada where CX had partnered with WestJet but they do not have Business Class or lounges.
AC still has SQ for pax cnx in HKG.
As for the UA announcement, so many on the UA forum are posting that SQ was blindsided. Wonder if that is completely true.
