if the answer to my first ticket is that award tickets may be canceled with no fee within 24 hours, then I am guessing that if it is purchased within 7 days that would not be true,
The 24-hour policy is the same for paid or award tickets.
Although UA has recently written the seven-day rule into their contract of carriage, I have yet to see any reports of them enforcing it. Until / unless they do, you can get a free refund within 24 hours to the original form of payment for any ticket, paid or award.
