Lost Business Insurance
We were in a Florida hotel when we were evacuated due to a fire on our floor. After my pregnant wife, two-year old son and I spent three -hours in the lobby into the wee-hours of the morning, we, along with other guests, were finally given rooms on another floor.
When we checked out in the morning, there was some confusion as to which room we should be billed for. After some conversation, I also mentioned the fact that we didn't get much sleep and we had no access to our belongings for most of the night. The clerk offered to charge us their lowest rate, government employee. I asked if that was a "sleeping rate." The manager ultimately came over and tore up the bill.
Either this was a simple good-will gesture or an opportunity for the hotel to make a lost-business insurance claim on their policy, if they did this for many of the guests.
