Weird pricing on cash upgrade

Hi all

Here my recent experience on an cash upgrade.
We had TA booked economy saver tickets for DUS-DXB-DUS priced at approx 650€ pp.
At OLCI the website offered a oneway upgrade to J at 550€ pp. We opted out as I don’t particularly see premium in EK J and it was only an overnight 6 hr flight. Immediate regret on board as seat pitch was far tighter than last time and I arrived DXB extremely bushed.

For return DXB-DUS I enquired at check-in counter on cash upgrade from Y to J. We were told to go to ticket sales where they quoted us a price of approx 1200€ pp. We declined. Upon boarding I enquired again but here crew quoted 2200€ pp! Obviously we declined again.

I find this pricing crazy – we were already on the plane, hence no lounge access, no chauffeur drive on arrival.
I only wanted a larger seat pitch but almost 4 times the prices of the original ticket is a no brainer.

In hindsight the return in Y wasn’t that bad this being a daytime flight.
