I pay for GF and know many SFO/ORD/IAD based GS that pay a premium for pricey J/C/D fares on UA simply to be able to upgrade to GF. With GF going away, I'm going to either be buying the cheapest possible P fare or looking to upgrade from Y whenever possible.
When a flight is too long to suffer through the jammed packed Polaris lounge followed by the crappy assembly-line J experience, I'm going to start flying LH or others.
I too am in the camp that pays for GF as often as possible. Although recently i've been quite fond of the sCO J seats in the 764, 777, and 787. However, nothing beats those wonderfully soft GF seats on long flights.
I sure do miss the blue mattress covers that used to be available in GF...
