Fettucicni Alfredo is one of the most popular dishes in Italian American restaurants in the USA. However, it doesn't exist in Italy, and Italians have never heard of it. Except on Via della Scrofa, where you will be staying. I think that most people know this story.
Well, I knew Alfredo's was there. But I certainly didn't choose the place I'm staying based on that. I like the location and the property suits my needs.
Though I have nothing against butter and cream ( my heritage is French after all; my wife is second generation full Italian-American), I actually dislike Alfredo sauce, which I find generally too gloopy for my taste. As mentioned in earlier posts, Il Bacaro is also right around the corner from where I'm staying. That's a very good Roman restaurant. But I didn't choose Res. Mazio for that either. Nor for its proximity to the much anticipated Retrobottega.
Having said that, there's a pretty good chance I will get a chance to sample Alfredo alla Scrofa because I'm traveling with a 12 year old who loves him some Alfredo. Makes sense. The flavor profile suits kids. I believe it is a staple on kids menus around the US. Obviously my hope is to introduce him to actual Italian regional food as we will be spending a week each in Rome, Naples, the Lakes, and Venice. But I'm not going to deny him an Alfredo on the basis of "it's not really Italian."
I get that you were being facetious about wanting a review. I'd only write one if the the food was stupendous by some infinitesimal chance. Don't count on it.
