flyerCO, there should have been no value remaining for prior segments. The LAX>MSP>ORD leg (the only one remaining and unused) was probably worth around $220-250 before change fees and LAX>MSP>MSN was ~$360-380. I should have owed the fare difference plus $200 change = $360-380, instead I got a credit of $460, a swing of $840. They undoubtedly repriced without prior segments in fare basis.
Correct. You're misunderstanding what in saying I think. The receipt will only show the cost of the brand ticket. What matters is what the fare was for the unused portion. It could be more then what was used even if the flights are shorter. Basically you would need to look at your original ticket and using the fare basis figure out what you paid for the unused portion. IF you book JFK-LAX RT you might have the same fare class but pay twice the amount one direction then the other.

The other issue can be of the ecredit is not actually $460 but $260 I have had it before where the agent doesn't subtract the change fee. It then comes off when goto use the ecredit. You find out a $460 credit is only worth $260. Quite a shock when it happens.
