I recevied feedback from Amanpulo regarding safety (below). It's pretty much the same as what was previously mentioned in the thread but thouht I'd still post it to confirm that nothing has changed from a security standpoint. I'm actually leaning towards keeping my booking as is and just keep an eye as to how things play out over the next few weeks.

Greetings from our Peaceful Island! Happy to say that we are doing very well here on the island. Thank you very much for sharing your concern with us. I did want to take this opportunity to respond to you as safety of our guests, staff and residents of the local community is our highest priority.

Kindly be informed that all arrivals to and departures from the island are closely monitored by the resort’s trained and equipped security guard force from a prominent international security provider. We are also in very close communication with the Philippines Navy and Coastguard who are vigilant in patrolling our area.

We hold an exclusion zone (sea and sky) around Pamalican island, the island that Amanpulo is located. Anything that passes into this area is intercepted by our security force. They are capable of early detection/identification and quick reaction that ensure utmost guest safety. Even small boats that come near the exclusion zone (1.4 nautical miles from shore) around the island are warded off. The island's natural features, such as its reefs and shores as well as natural forest growths also provide for natural barriers against external threats.

Due to recent reports of an increase in terrorist activity such as what has been brought to your attention, we have heightened the safety and security measures in our area. We are also in very close communication with the Philippines Navy and Coastguard who are vigilant in patrolling our area. As an additional precautionary measure, we have limited the range of our recreational sea activities. We still offer boating experiences in the immediate vicinities of Pamalican and Manamoc, but Island Hopping is suspended until further notice.

Please rest assured that if there was any concern at all regarding our guest safety, we would be the first to inform you as we will not jeopardize our guest safety in anyway. I trust that this email will address your safety concerns in visiting Amanpulo for your birthday celebration.
