In my experience, EK staff are reluctant to involve police because of the headaches it causes in both administration and the general feeling amongst some expat staff in involving Emirati officialdom - e.g. unruly drunk pax who should imho be met upon landing by police are just left to sober up in lounges.
That to me would indicate something missing from this story (if I had to guess the pax was probably quite uncooperative with staff).
There are rumours of certain famous people who whilst in F lavatories have used controlled drugs on the way to DXB and nothing happens to them...
Sure, the airline and country is known to do somethings to avoid adverse attention or the image of having double standards, but being famous/rich/well-connected in some ways is not the same thing as being perceived as a "scrubber" or "scrubber"-wannabe on their own.
