Look, it's the handle portion that people touch, not the tips where the food is grabbed or scooped from. The handle part is the part touching the food, and sometimes left soaking in it. The whole point is Minimizing. I never implied that any method was fool proof.
yeah. the problem is not so much that the tip rests in the food but that when the tongs are left in the bowl, they slip INTO the food completely. The soup laddle is designed so that the handle is always outside the actual soup so you dont put your hand in the food to grab the utensil.
