The video portion of DirectTV is fairly reliable and the live TV portion requires you to be in the CONUS region.

A lot will depend on flight path based on weather, but assuming a standard route like this you should get somewhere between 2 to 2.5 hours of live TV. But the recorded movies will work for the entire flight (once they start -- a bit after takeoff).
