Both BR and CI have existing 747 operations, especially for the cargo business. I believe CI has a couple dozen left and BR maybe half of that. EGAT also does maintenance for a bunch of other asian carriers, and actually did the conversion of 747s into the "Dreamlifter" in partnership with Boeing.
+1 this. I am sure the 77W going to TPE has more to do with it's growth as a *A connection point thanks to BR, and less to do with fear the 744's will crap out at any moment.
